One problem
I was having was on how to run the exhaust system. Many
small aircraft have the exhaust system coming out from under the
engine and attached to the gear or fuselage. Rotax has quite a
few exhaust systems you can attach to there different engines,
but 2si doesn't. What you see here is what you get. Fisher has
changed the exhaust system on the 2si engine. but the expense
was a big consideration. The exhaust systems on 2 cycle engines
are tuned and I didn't want to change this in any way. The above
photo shows the installation on my 303 which is pretty standard.
Some changes were made to accommodate for the engine mount down
tube. There will be a short piece of exhaust pipe attached to
where the exhaust comes out of the muffler to deflect the exhaust
down and back.
I don't have an electrical
system to start the 2si engine. This will be done with a pull
start like on a lawnmore. The plans on the FP 303 show the pull
start coming out of the side of the fuselage with the pull start
handle being attached on the right side of the fuselage. I didn't
want that mainly for looks. A friend of mine has an FP 202 with
a Rotax 477. His pull start is on the inside of the cabin. He
has had no problems starting his engine from the inside. This
photo shows how I installed the pull start cord. There is a bracket
holding the handle inside. This might not work over the long term
and I might have to make changes in the future.
The FP 303 does not have
any storage. I changed the head rest so I could store items in.
I noticed I could add more storage under the seat. This photo
shows this completed. This photo also shows the cables running
from the rudder pedals and as you see here through the seat back
to the rudder and the steerable tail wheel. The slots on each
side of the seat are for the seat belt to pass through.
This photo shows the throttle
I have for my FP 303. It is a single lever internal reverse with
a friction lock. As an attachment bracket 3/4" wood and cut
it to the shape of the throttle. This was glued into place. The
throttle is attached to the base with screws.
