I'm Going To Aircraft

Using House Paint
For The Paint Job.
My 303 is going
to have the PT-19 paint job.
The PT-19 was a WWII trainer. (blue fuselage and yellow wings)
I have talked
to people who have used house paint and have read a number
of articles. Most people are successful in using this method.
For the UV protection
I used charcoal black house paint. The paint was thinned
with Flo Trol. The paint was worked into the fabric using a foam
brush. Everything was given 2 coats.
On the PT-19 the
rudder is black along the leading edge with a total of 13 red
and white stripes.
The red stripes
have been applied to the rudder. The white is next.
Here is the horizontal
stabelizer painted.
I did have a problem
in the painting process.
After the black
paint ( UV ) was applied I painted the horizontal stabelizer and
the elevator with white house paint. This would give me a briter
yellow. It took 3 coats of white paint to get a good coverage.
It took 3 coats of yellow paint to
get a really good coverage. Something had to be changed. To many
coats
of paint.
On the fin and
elevator I did not apply the white paint. There is a little
difference in the shade of yellow when finished between the pieces
painted
white and no white paint. The difference is slite and not that
noticeable.
